Endings
In August 2022 we had to say goodbye to Jack. He was 16 years old and he had been part of the family since he was a puppy.
We have lots of memories of our time together. Many of the stories are shared in this blog. It was Jack that got me started with Hounds Connect. He made a big impact on our lives and we have a lot to thank him for. Things were going to be quieter with just Archie and me. Or that was what I thought.
On the day of his passing, Jack’s breeder, Susan Briant (Sufayre), sent me a message. She apologised for the timing but wanted to let me know that the hound she was planning to breed from was coming into season that week and hoped to have a litter soon. It was nice to hear good news on a sad day.
As the weeks went by the idea of having a mini Jack felt more and more like a good idea. Surely it was meant to be. Which kind of overshadowed any rational decision making!
New Beginning
We decided to get another boy. Susan had shared that she found the female hamiltons more independent than the males. Jack had been independent enough for me so that was an easy decision.
Four months after losing Jack, Karlsson came to live with us. We’ve named him after Susan’s original Hamilton, Jack’s father. Karlsson is Jack’s great great nephew. Lots of opportunity to learn more about the breed, try new activities and, of course, to learn more about the emotional connection we have with our dogs.
I hope you will join us on our journey together and share your own thoughts and experiences. Wish me luck and speak soon.
