Pet Bereavement

It is very difficult to lose anyone that you are close to, be it a relative, a partner,a friend, a pet.  People can sympathise, but no one can understand what it means for you.  The loss can feel unbearable and can affect our mental, emotional and physical well-being.

When we lose an animal companion we have other emotions that aren't always present when we lose a human.    There can be a huge feeling of guilt - was it right to put my pet to sleep?  Did I give my pet a good life?  If I had done things differently would things have worked out differently?  And then there are people around us who will say 'it was only a dog….or a cat, a horse or a guinea pig...' and we may be left feeling guilty that we feel bad.  We may be angry - at the circumstances around losing our animal, whether through illness, an accident or some other way.

We may be struggling with a difficult decision on whether to put an animal companion to sleep, not sure what to do, don't know how to feel about it, would like to share our thoughts with someone else that will listen in an open non-judgmental way while we work through things.

At Hounds Connect we offer a listening service for people facing these difficulties and who would like to talk to someone about it.  The service is totally confidential and non-judgmental, it is designed to support you in your process.
